I would like to ask for the help of LUGNET members in solving the problems
that the community is facing. The first step is to be as accurate as
possible. I understand Kevins post reflects his feelings in how and why the
committee was formed and has been handled; but its important for everyone to
understand events from a separate perspective.
This community will become what we all make of it.

The first step, in my humble opinion, isnt accuracy, its transparency. Were
not in Kindergarten, where the teacher has to set everything up behind the
scenes and then bring it out saying here ya go--milk and cookies!
Were AFOLs--pretty much the A is what Im referring to right now. If LUGNET
is to shine as an example of the AFOL community, then these private meetings
discussing the future, whatever position you may have as to what is actually
going on there, is bad for the community. Ignorance breeds contempt and fear,
which then causes the public outlash that weve seen on so many occasions.
When the community sees This is what the administration has decided--there is
no debate, no matter how cute you word it, its still going to cause a furor in
the community. You know it, I know it--basically anyone who has any sort of
knowledge about the history of LUGNET knows it.
Its not to the extent of taxation without representation (throwing that in
there for my good buddy, Lar++ ;) ), but when a community feels wronged,
justifiably or not, then the community feels wronged. As the administration of
this little community, its not up to you to dictate how the community should or
should not feel by pointing out the accuracy of what actually transpired, its
up to you to be as transparent as possible--thus giving the community all data
to base their decision making processes.
And if transparency occurs, and if you should falter (which again is only human
and will happen), the community will not be as quick to burn down the house
for theres a sense of were all together on this.
So bottom line--we, as a community, can help but only if we know whats going
on.

Even though you and others felt you could not continue the process, I still believe it's a vital component in getting LUGNET back on track, and I'm hopeful that the review (...)
