Marc Nelson Jr.

Most of our achievements have been in the under-lying structure of Lugnet, and in the preparation for the Transition. Every time some big drama explodes, it pulls us away from that it makes it harder for us to get the spirit enough to dive back into the work.

But you’re right. The year that I’ve been at Lugnet, I’ve accomplished very little.

But you’re wrong. I don’t have a sense of self-importance. Neither do any of the other admins. Yes, we want people to respect our authority - to give us some credit for being that bad-guy-police.

But I don’t care if anyone respects me or not. What I’d like is for people to do what they’ve agreed to do (follow the ToU, PG, etc), and otherwise leave me alone. It’s people coming out of the wood work to bad mouth me, to complain about everything I’m not doing, and then do nothing to help - and even to do what they can to make it harder for me - that’s what bothers me.

The Admins here at Lugnet have a pretty thankless job. And it’s a pretty boring one too. It was difficult for me to get things done because I already have a job - my 2nd one here eats into LEGO playing time. But Admins here, and any of the LEGO sites for that matter, including Classic-Castle, Classic-Space Forums, BZPower, 1000Steine.de, Eurobricks, etc - they’re doing what they’re doing to make the LEGO Community better and stronger. It’s easy to look at them and say, “wow, they must have pretty small egos to be taking charge of a lego site. what they must do to feel important.” But it’s not true.

I’ll tell you what. I don’t do Lugnet, CC, or CSF to feel important. I worked on all of those sites because I wanted to give something back.

That is equally true of Larry Pieniazek, Frank Filz, Kelly McKiernan, and Todd Lehman. It isn’t about feeling self-important - it’s about feeling an obligation.

(...) Actually, I'm really happy to hear that - is there anything you can tell us about how the Transition is going? Because from an outsider's point of view (well, outside of the LT), it seems like it's been abandoned. :/ (19 years ago, 21-Apr-05, to lugnet.admin.general) !
