A much more interesting contest might be - building instruction of the month.
There are a broad set of techniques that can be applied when it comes to
creating building instructions.  It would be a much richer set of things to
consider, and a much richer set of things to be taught and learned.  Style
matters much more there.

I think you really are on to something now... The various instruction
creator/authors all have their own styles, although some authors are similar in
some areas to some other authors, you still can often tell who did which
instructions if you've seen enough of them.

I (and I suspect other authors also) would like to think we've made good
stylistic and presentation choices but absent feedback from users who have used
a lot of different ones, who knows for sure?

This contest might be a great way to raise the bar on instruction quality. As
you say, presentation style matters a great deal here. One issue is that mine
(and some others) are optimised for printing so any electronic presentation may
not show them in the very best light, but oh well.

(...) Don, I thought about this for a while and have decided to retract my positive swing on this. The whole, dat required or not discussion is somewhat moot IMHO. For a given complete physical model there are only so many reasonable ways the model (...) (20 years ago, 6-Jan-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)
