I know.  I just happen not to be one of those people.

I agree with Jacob.  Also, the discussion prior to this post

To which post? Your post?

doesn't really matter -

All the rest of the thread before your post is irrelevant? I'm not sure that's
what you meant to say, you may want to consider a rewording to clarify.

a decision wasn't made in that discussion, so what
people who participated in it thought is really irrelevant.

I disagree. While they may not have been the decision makers (and again, who
is/are the decision maker or makers?) to dismiss their opinions is, well,
dismissive.

The statement about discussion was presented to show that this wasn't some idea
that Orion just sprung on LDraw but rather one that did get some considerable
discussion first.

The point that perhaps it wasn't enough discussion or wasn't the right time of
year to ensure full participation may have merit but I'm not reading that in
your wording. What I am reading is "so what if a number of people agree. nothing
matters before my post" And if that is a correct reading (maybe it is, maybe it
isn't) that's rather a cavalier attitude to take, in my view.

If someone chooses not to participate in the contest because they
can't/won't release the DAT, what's the loss for LDraw?  On the other
hand, if LDraw requires the DAT to be available, it can (and should) be
used to learn more about how to use LDraw, as Jacob mentioned.

Is that an enforcable provision of voting, that you have to learn something from
the .dat file before you can vote?
