I think that may be going a bit far. The government did a poor job of acting on evidence it had before it, but that’s a lot different than actually “letting” the attacks succeed. There’s lots of evil afoot but I don’t think things have gotten QUITE that bad here. Yet.

Well consider what has transpired. The Governement has “accomplished” much that public opinion never would have allowed prior to 9/11. What have the perpetrators’ supporters gained? Why has there not been another attack despite the fact that the only security increases have been superficial “feel good” endeavors to make people think something has changed?
  
   The problem is we need a consistent foreign policy regardless of what that policy is.

Well yes, we need a consistent foreign policy but certain foreign policies, even if consistent, are not very good ones to have.

But they are still better than the inconsistent mess we have now. Why does the media keep referring to the troops in Iraq as the “occupation force”?

A policy that said we would consistently attack (with nuclear weapons) any country that had a leader that said "Bush is a weenie" would be indeed consistent, but worse than what we have now. (...)
