I can agree with your feelings of the Technic theme being slowly diluted with Bionicle, Throwbots and the like and the theme 'Technic' itself may indeed be dead but I am in a huge disagreement with idea that the newer Technic parts are in some way (...) I'm not speaking from any real authority here but I seem to remember reading in a F1/Indy car racing mag that Williams had paired up with Lego to produce a more "real" F1 technic car. Meaning, more accurate and thus more complicated technic car. (...) (22 years ago, 4-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)

In my mind it is easy to see where lego went wrong on terms of technic. A change in the technic line may have been needed to evolve a little after 1997 but they went the wrong direction. Instead of modles becoming more complex, larger, better (...) (22 years ago, 4-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)

I've recently been playing with lego marble devices and have found you can make pretty good curved track with Technic Ribbed Hose. Jake, Well...I do own the 8448 and 8466 and I've put an RCX and motors on the 8448 so here's my take on it: I came out of the dark ages through the 8448 (much as you have with the 8466) So there's a special place for it in my heart :) I bought the (...) (22 years ago, 3-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)

Guys, I hate to break it to you, but Technic as a theme is dead and it didnt just die all of a sudden due to Lego's 2002 vertical marketing scheme but has been on a downhill slide for several years. Hey guys, I've got 8880 and 8466...both at a bargain. IMHO, 8466 is the better of the two but I still appreciate the engineering that went into the 8880. 8466 seems to have most of the features of the 8448, but I can't seem to motorize that 4x4 and (...) In my opinion, the problem is in 19999, 2000 and 2001 the large technic sets have all been cars and the market may have got board of this. Maybe if they came out with somthing different yet offer great functionality then technic would get very (...) (22 years ago, 3-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)

I'm not sure your assessment is accurate. I would concede that the "Technic" word may be dropped from TLC's vocabulary, but I see no evidence that there is much slackening in the pace to create new sets and parts. I think what is happening is that (...) (22 years ago, 2-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)

I agree with all your comments. This is a great set, especially now it is available at 50%. It is a clever model and well worth building just to soak up a recent lesson in current parts type building techniques (smooth beams etc.). I just grabbed a (...) Hi, Has anybody else noticed that the new style Technic differential housings (p/n 6573) have the same mouldings as the 16t clutch gears and could therefore be engaged by a driving ring. I think Ian raises a good point here. The dearth of fests in the first three quarters of this year (barring Jon's excellent preamble to the last RLD) can possibly be put down to the lack of anything being organised by the 'the usual suspects'.
