While it might have been fun for US (as AFOL's), for the target market
(8-16 y/o) it would have made things worse. Kids can't spend $200-300
per set. Also most shops can't / won't stock such expensive sets.
Perhaps in the USA it would have worked, but not in Europe (where mail
ordering toys is still uncommon, just look at how S@H is developing here
:( )
I think if you take Technic a bit broader, you'll see that Mindstorms is
still continueing some elements of the original Technic sets (you still
see how it works, and develop mechanical/electrical/logical solutions
for a given problem) When I look at the price and contents of say the
9735 I can only say "wish that was out 10 years ago" !
With the way S@H is going, if there's enough demand I think somewhere in
future we'll probably be able to bulk-order beams, gears, pins etc etc.
As long as we buy enough, S@H will supply. Ofcourse all IMHO...
