I couldn't find a single brick in my collection that I'd be prepared to • put
up for sale.  I simply don't have enough duplicates or excess.  I have to
wonder if the majority of adult LEGO fans are in the position to have • extra
parts to sell, or are in the camp of those who desparately want to spend
more money on parts they can't get.

I'm think Technic has been declining as a whole where we define Technic as
the LEgo line that valued function over form.  This is somewhat
understandable with the car series: when 8880 came out, it was a technical
wonder.  Now, with the 8448 and 8466 and even the 8458, suspension,
differentials and such have been done.  There's not much to do with a car
after 8880.  True, we'd like to see some more construction equipment perhaps
but one can only hope.

To answer your wondering from one perspective though: I am definitely in the
position of not having NEARLY enough.  I have a whole bunch of parts and
maybe a collection of lego pieces that borders 7,000 (not much really) but
like many people who have lego out there, it's not a concentrated selection.
Maybe 65% of my pieces are technic and then the rest is scattered space,
model team, and aquazone, and town and you name it.  So while I have plenty
of technic beams...enough for most projects, I may run out of a worm gear at
a moment's notice...or run out of specifically 1x10 technic beams or a
similar problem.  And god forbid I actually try to stick to a color
scheme...the only way I can do that is to build a prototype, save up some
money, and then go scavenge around bricklink.  So yeah, I'm definitely in a
position of wanting more pieces...but I'm also in a position where I don't
quite have enough money to do so (being a college student and all).  I would
think that most Lego nuts are on the wanting more end though...except for
perhaps the many master builders that frequent lugnet :)

(...) My solution to the color problem is to only buy beams etc in one color (I got a large quantity of black, some grey then one or 2 of other colors that I got for various specific uses) (22 years ago, 9-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Hi, I've never counted my pieces (98% technic), but from your comments, it seems like I might be well above 7,000 since I do not the risk of running out of most technic elements any time soon (exceptions include the newest double no-friction (...) (22 years ago, 9-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Some folks perhaps... but 'many'? When I got back into LEGO as an adult I went on a buying frenzy. I bought not only assorted tubs and buckets, but also Technic sets and also parts packs from LEGO Shop @ Home Canada. And then...... it was as (...) (22 years ago, 9-Aug-02, to lugnet.technic)
