Yes, that was exactly my point. LUGNET does not represent the whole of the
LEGO buying community... only a small percentage who are 'in the loop'. If
you wanted real data about what the general public would buy, you would post
surveys/votes on LEGO.com and see what sort of results you get.
Take a look at http://www.canoe.ca
There is a survey (mid way down, right side) every single day. This is a
great way to gather information... for free.
What if LEGO.com offered lists of parts in such a survey on a daily basis?
Q: Pick which of these parts you'd like to next see released as a bulk part:
o Grey 2x2 tiles
o Grey 1x3 bricks
o Grey 1x8 bricks
o Black 4x4 plates
o Yellow 2x4 plates
Then take the part from each day with the highest votes and repost them at
the end of each week or month in a run-off to find out which of the favorite
parts would get the most votes among that group. You'd quickly see what a
large cross-section of your buying public would be interested in. This
would include folks who don't even know LUGNET exists. And... as a side
benefit... if the survey were updated daily, it would drive extra traffic to
the site... for FREE. LEGO needs to realize that not all advertising costs
money.

Allan B.
