I'm currently assemblying a handyboard and came across some literature for Motorola's 68HC12 microcontroller. The one thing that attracted me to it is its built in memory-mapping capabilities. I've tried the enable_cheesy_encoders and it doesn't seem to work for me either. What I get is 0 for the portX_shaft_count all the time. Is this what you're getting? I need help on understanding the motor controller circuit. Looking at the source in the lib_hb librariy it looks like different pulse trains are sent out to increase the average output voltage by poking increasing values of 256 into the rught (...) James, Thanks for following up. The reason for this behavior should be fairly evident -- there are traces very close to the mounting screw holes. Your metal washers must have shorted them together, affecting wires to the memory. I do mention to use (...) (27 years ago, 11-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

I've discovered the problem. When I mounted the Handyboard, I used metal standoffs. When the board is mounted, it doesn't work. When it isn't, it does. Hello, I attached a Radio Shack IR emittter / detector to the handyboard to cure my touch sensor faults I'm using the Legobug. Hi my handyboard works fine, but i have a big problem with my motors. If i use the "FD(x)" command my motor runs very well. Hej I'm had the same problem, until i found that I loaded some programs via lib-file, not suitably for HB. (lib_r22.c) It seems you are running some programs for the 6.270. Have You setup IC correct? (...) Actually Radio Shack didn't lie, the chips Jeff are referring to are the SP0256 Allophone synthesizer from General Instrument and the CTS244 text to speech processor, also from GI. I remember that quite a few years ago, Radio Shack carried a pair of voice synthesis chips that appeared easy to connect to an 8 bit data bus or serial line, but my (...) Hi Sriram, The "ticks" argument to start_process won't do what you want. The "ticks" argument to start_process is used for fine-tuning the relative amount of time different processes get. Robin, out team has had the same problem. And after much of the following troubleshooting, we narrowed it down to a faulty 6811. We replaced the chip and everything ran smoothly. Maybe try a lego motor or similar electric motor .The electrical inputs become the outputs.I've only tried this once with a 9 volt motor by lego and it generated about 9 volts when spun at the same revs as it would have run when used as a nine volt (...) I need help locating a few of the "hard to find parts" for the HB. I still need the; Sharp IR demod. IS1U60 and the 16x2 LCD display. I can't find either of them. looking for a small generator that pumps 6-15 volts dc at a shaft speed of 1,000 to 5,000 rpm or 10,000 to 20,000rpm.... 12v is the key... but it is to be driven by a .12ci gas motor with a throtle, so maintaining the voltage will have to be left up (...) I was looking at the page (URL) instructions on starting the handy board as I just completed the interface. From the parts list, either the MC68HC11A1FN or the MC68HC11E1FN are acceptable, but on this page, the picture of the handy board has an A0FN (...) I was wondering if someone could check out this code. I got it to work w/ just the touch sensors and motors. But I added photocells to it and added the code in for that and now the LCD panel reads....231>Press START after I press start it says... (...)   Trouble with MAX232
 
Just starting with the HB and already problems Im having problems getting the 9 to 10 volts out of pins 3-7 of J9 (the RS232 connector) when pins 6 and 10 of the MAX232 are shorted in the last paragraph of step 3.2.2. Remover the motor chip closest to you. The pins are correct. I never used a resistor. I don't remeber what the reason for using one is. Perhaps someone can repeat it.
