Just nitpicking here, not sure of the overall relevance, but...
Bad analogy. (having tried and failed to move cows and having actually fixed
fences). It's a LOT easier to fix a fence that doesn't want to be fixed than
to move a cow that doesn't want to be moved. And less messy.
It's bad another way, in that it's not your neighbors fence we are talking
about when it is suggested to just delete the mail... it's yours. YOUR spam
defense didn't work so YOU have to move the cow. Your neighbor thinks he can
graze his cows on anybody's land. He doesn't have a fence and doesn't think
one is needed, he's not clear on the property rights of the matter. The COWcop
organisation that you route all your grazing requests might be paying him a
call but who can say for sure.
Having nitpicked that, which was fun, I haven't changed my mind any. I remain
in the "mildly disliked it, it is wrong, but not sure it's worth tearing at
the very fabric of LUGNET over, I don't want Jeremy to leave, but he did come
on a bit harsh" camp. Nothing I have seen is going to change that sort of
middle of the road stance of mine, where I suspect many of us are. (the silent
ones all obviously agree with ME else they'd speak up :-) )
Are we learning anything new (1)?
Is anyone's mind changing about anything?
If not, call the question.
at least we're in .debate now, which it is argued (2) is less detrimental to
the fabric of LUGNET because it's the group for cow wrangling.
1 - well, that book Eric K. posted a pointer to was interesting. I don't agree
with all the definitions, for instance a binary mistakenly posted to a
newsgroup is wrong but not spam...
2 - not sure I 100% agree. I've seen acrimony here spill over and hard
feelings engendered here carry over. So it *may* not work as well as we think.
I dunno.
