I think that Playmobil has gone through more changes, and more signifigant
changes than Lego trains have in the past 20-25 years.  Lego has changed
voltages once, and kept the same track gauge as always.

Not to be picky, but there have been 3 voltages: 4.5v, 9v, and 12v.  I've • never
seen any 12v and played with 4.5v once, a long time ago, so I can't comment on
the gauge of the different tracks.

Not in NA.  Only 2 voltages, plus the push trains in NA.  12V was _never_
available here from Lego Canada or Lego USA.

The 12V was also concurent with the 4.5V, and most sets were availabe
essencially the same (the 4.5V train was 'similar' to the 12V starter train,
with more 12V stuff being available)  Had I lived in Europe, I likely would
have had 12 V rather than 4.5V stuff.  In fact, I likely would not have OO
scale stuff as well...I would have stuck with the Lego trains, but there is a
lot you cannot do with the 4.5V stuff...
