I think what he was trying to say, is that the official policy of Lucasfilm is
that the movies are the only true Canon, and that if Lucas puts something
into a SW movie, then that is the SW "truth" even if it contradicts
something from a book.

This anti-expanded universe attitude does not hold much water.  Every • book
ever written in the Star Wars universe must first pass through
several "continuity editors."  These guys work directly for Lucasarts to
ensure that no authorized material violates or contradicts any other • work.
Many, myself included, feel that the comic book series took some • liberties,
but according to Lucasarts these works are just as much Star Wars • cannon as
the movies.  Consider this fact, the city Coruscant was originally named • in
Timothy Zahn's first novel, George Lucas liked the idea so much he
incorporated it into Episode I.

Simply put, if your sole source of tales involving the Star Wars universe • is
the movies, then at least you have two additional installmens to look • forward
to (as well as a long wait inbetween).  However, if you give the • expanded Star
Wars universe a chance you have many years of enjoyment to look • forward to,
but rest assured that George Lucas will definately take into • consideration the
many things that have been written as he seeks to finish out the saga.

And to answer the C3po question, how would a droid possibly • remember if he had
his memory erased?  Come to think of it I can't remember ever having • amnesia.
