I too don't but the "awesome powers of foresight" explanations.

I didn't say that he planned it that far in advance, nor do I beleive that.  I
was merely repeating what Lucas said.  I *do* think it was a bit of a retcon.
I do like it because it lets him have more exciting lightsaber battles now.

I don't understand how people don't see this.  Watch all 4 movies in
"chronological" order.  No one realized it before ep. 1 but it seems glaringly
obvious to me that the choreography supported the theory of old men and a young
inexperienced kid.  I am the one that started this by pointing this out and
then someone mentioned it was actually stated by Lucas he intended this.  The
fact that I came to this conclusion before I found out Lucas intended it means
I would tend to believe it.  Everyone seems to be forgetting that when he made
the first movie he took a piece of the story that would work best as a stand
alone film.  All the movies were meant to fit together as a whole story.  That
requires alot of forsight and things that may not seem obvious untill after one
sees the whole story.

When the truth about Luke's father comes out, us fans had to do the same kind
of
back-tracking and apologizing. Did Lucas foresee that revelation when • trimming
the first movie's contents? I've never seen any statement that it was planned
that far back.

Err, it was, though.  The first three movies were one story originally.  Vader
was always Luke's father.  What makes you think otherwise?

Beru:  He's too much like his father.
Owen:  That's what I'm afraid of.

Subtle forshadowing?  Look we all know Lucas is lousy at character development
but he definatly can execute his plot very well.  Star Wars is all about the
story not the people.  Sci-fi about people is what Star Trek is for.
