Which it was definitely meant to be. There are even removed scenes,
apparently, which make this even more clear.

I don't know. They didn't spend a whole lot of time together...
I think one relationship- maybe the biggest one in the movie- fell very flat:
The relationship between Padme and Anakin. They are supposed to be very close
at by end of the movie, but it just doesn't work for me. Padme seems too old,
and Anakin too young- I get the sense of her being amused by a young child, not
forming a close relationship as peers. And when I imagine that in the future
they're going to, erm, "get married", if you follow me, I just get creeped out.

| (...) Part of the problem with this "relationship" isn’t so much the writing (which, admittedly, is a factor) as the direction. Liam Neeson and Ewan MacGregor are actual actors, and they could barely stay afloat under George’s unsophisticated (...) (25 years ago, 31-May-00, to lugnet.starwars)

| I've been meaning to post this for some time. I think one of the major problems with The Phantom Menace is that it is not a 'buddy movie.' In the original trilogy, you have several strong friendships/partnerships that aren't present in TPM. Examples (...) (25 years ago, 31-May-00, to lugnet.starwars)
