Which reminds me, I haven't seen a discussion on piece-sorting for a while.

Whoops!  My bad -- I posted this off-topic message and didn't forward it to
an appropriate group.  Thanks to Tom McDonald for catching it, but I'm
afraid it'll just keep on going in the wrong groups.  My apologies to
everyone.

Actually, I have thought about using the sort-by-original-set method, since
getting all the new SW sets. Before that, I used to sort by color, but with all
the older space sets I have, I have two big drawers for black pieces.

I did this until my black pieces were overflowing three drawers.  It just
got too difficult to find any piece I needed.

So, any suggestions? How does everyone sort their pieces?

I ended up sorting mine by part function; e.g.:

snall bricks, large bricks, small plates, large plates, Studs-Not-On-Top,
Minifig parts, Minifig accessories, etc...

A lot of it is still not catagorized real well, but now I can find what I
need.

Cheers,
- jsproat
