OK. Can anyone who thinks a public health care system is a bad idea please
explain why that argument does not hold for a public education system.  To
me, and I would guess to most who support these two things, they are both
about ensuring equality of opportunity to a nation's citizens.  After having
done this could they please go out and campaign vociferously to dismantle
the US public education system and replace it with a much more efficient
private one.

Oh how I wish they would privatize the education system here in the states,
but due to the power of the teacher's unions it won't happen country wide
anytime soon. I know a few cities have recently turn over their systems to
private companies, so it will be interesting to see how it works. So for now
I must continue to pay for a public education system that my child won't be
using.

The vouchers was a great idea--you send your kid to whichever school system
you're most comfortable with, whether it's run by your church or someone
else, or even home schooling, and your tax dollars goes to that school
system.  In this way there is competition amongst the school boards to
provide the best education for your child *and* you are comfortable sending
your kid there.

Ah but there's that 'Separation of Church and State' thing (and the
unions--always the unions...)

Denied!

Oh well... what's next.

Dave

I'd guess the Catholic Church -and believe me, (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
