The big problem is someone has to notice the new color, and then someone
has to make the change in the next part update. Why subject ourselves
to this headache?

But we aren't zipped, and there are plenty of people with Win95/FAT16
hard drives where a 20 byte file will eat up 32K of drive space.

Which is $500 more than some people can spend.

Just put a standard tag at the start of the part name (like ~Color), and
LDAO can ignore the parts when creating the VEC.

Right, but I think that level of usefullness is better addressed in a
search program which is smart enough to look for things like the
KEYWORDS tag.

But how many people know a part by any number other than what is stamped
on the part (or a subpart of the part)? All the other numbers come from
some reference list that most people never see.
