  A few questions.

Can the motor outputs be used to close a relay instead of running a motor? As an example to control a motor that needs 120v AC? As far as the inputs go, are the digital inputs for switch type sensors (high or low value only), and the analog inputs (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Sonar

The hardware is limited to 31.5' (~ 10 meters). The limitation is on the design of the receive amplifier's gain module (and noise floor). Generally scaling this to an integer of 32767 results in a precision of just over 1 tenth of an inch (or 1/3 (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Overcharged battery?

hi dennis, well, it's just a plain C/10 charge circuit. but i was under the impression that nicad's aren't damaged by that. it's possible i'm wrong :-). any other battery experts out there? fred In your message you said: (...) ly (...) ut (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

(...) I was guessing here - most chargers don't check for peak charge, since I didn't know if the Handiboard charger did or didn't... If the charger has a trickle charge of more than C/50 or C/100 then NiCds will be damaged eventually on a long-term (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Vector 2X driver

I just bought a Vector 2X electronic compass for a project. In looking at it the manual, I see that if the 2X is run in slave mode I can clock out data from it at my leisure using any digital pins available on the Handy Board. This could almost be (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

no i disagree with this answer. the HB is designed to be left on normal charge indefinitely. the batts can get a little warm. if they are hot then something is wrong, but a little warm is nothing to worry about. when fully charged and with no load (...)   Re: Non-polaroid Sonar

In the sonar code from the web site, the rising edge detection on timer input channel 3 (TIC3) is set like this: bit_clear( 0x1021, 2 ); bit_set( 0x1021, 1 ); According to the little pink book, address 0x1021 is the Timer Control Register 2 (TCTL2) (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

(...) Ouch. You don't want to do that too much or you will torch (may have torched) your NiCds. NiCds do NOT like to be overcharged, it causes a problem called Voltage depression that many mistakenly call "memory effect". [snip] (...) Servos will (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

actually this is to be expected. with no load, the diodes produce no drop. if you're worried, try hooking a DC motor (or other real load -- light bulb, 10 ohm resistor, etc). across the servo motor supply and then measure the voltage. you should see (...)   Overcharged battery?

I've got a pre-assembled Gleason Research HB with expansion board, and have a couple questions. We've left it plugged in (on normal charge mode) for a week or so. I started to look at the specs to hook up a Futaba servo (6V), and found that with no (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Non-polaroid Sonar

Greetings all, I've just finished building Kam Leang's sonar circuit as published on his web site, and it all seems to be working well. I am having a problem interfacing it to the handyboard however.   Re: Another assembly question

the fact that the two LEDs come on and then go off suggests that you *are* successfully putting the hc11 into download mode. it also happens that the hc11 TxD pin is in what's called "wired OR mode" during bootstrap. this means that it can only (...)   Re: Hexapod servo supply

I had a very similar problem with my robot. When the servos are under high load (ie holding up your robot) and you try to move them all at once, the current drawn is quite large.   Re: Expansion Board problems

You have a short circuit somewhere. The first thing to check is to make sure you have the capacitors in the right way.
