Nope, shorting the motors has no effect on the batteries actually.. when you spin the motor, it acts like a generator... by shorting out the motor you are actually using the motors own reverse emf (electromotive force) to brake system. I think I may have gotten closer. I compiled legOS and that seemed to work fine... Samuel, From Paolo install instructions (under "2. Build the Hitachi-H8 cross-compiler" last bullet) "Ignore the warnings in compile process. It should work." setup.exe Package Listing on cygwin.com will tell you that you need the libintl1 package. Samuel, Yes I have seen this error. I am guessing your install a couple of weeks ago was actually using B20 version of cygwin? or that you have reinstalled cygwin? Typical remote control IRs like the RCX system are usually in the 870 - 950 nm range, just below visible red. 2 ways that have worked for me, both using the long range IR mode: 1) Point the RCX's IR Port at the ceiling and your IR Transmitter/ reciever unit at the ceiling and bounce the signals off your ceiling. I've been trying to figure out what firmware is included with ROBOLAB 2.0. The software includes two firmware files, Firmware.txt and Oldfirmware.txt. I had trouble viewing it before too, but I thought I'd give it a try again. When I click on it to view it in the browser, I get an icon with a torn piece of film, which indicates to me it can't play it. So I right clicked and saved it to disk, and (...) (23 years ago, 11-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

The only thing that comes to mind is that the metal strips are acting like brushes to connect the power to the commutator of the motor. One day, while there was nothing to do, I took apart my Microscout (came with the R2D2 droid development kit, or whatever). I had no idea how the motor assembly was connected to the rest of the unit, so this was probably a bad idea. Anyway, I took (...) Oh, and I forgot one of the "BIGGEST" wishes on the list: 5) Linksys wireless access port response rather than the directional IR port. Seems to me that the BEST implementation of the RCX would be for some CORE changes and feature sets to be built in. I've seen those. I think what someone does is buys a mindstorms set, and breaks it up into these parts: - 2.0 upgrade stuff (CD, IR tower, instructions, and test pad) ($20 to $40) - RCX ($80 to $100) - Non-electric stuff (the legos) ($50 to $75) I (...) (23 years ago, 10-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)
