a) Mechanical Interface for "Your Turn".  I don't think it can be as crude as
Chris suggests.  I'm thinking it should be poking an axle through a predefined
hole OR shorting a motor output into a sensor in.

This works well for the human interface. What about asking that the RCX
sends a standard message that is available on the remote control? That
takes away one mechanical issue and leaves all sensors and motor ports
avaailable.

b) Model of game board.  There appears to be at least TWO models of Connect Four
board-a new one which is all blue with yellow and red chips, and the old one,
blue frame, yellow board, red and blue chips.  We need to decide on
one--probably the one with easiest physical fit and widest differentiation in
colour readings.

Oh, I was thinking of a flat board like ProjectX. The standard board will
make things interesting. If not, get the new one that everyone has access
to. I think I have the yellow board....

Does each bot have a hopper, or can you load your bot with each piece?

c) Setup for holding the Connect Four board up.  Should the board actually sit
on a separate baseplate with its own mounting hardware and predfined points to
attach to it and the holder?

I like this idea, but getting everything lined up might be tricky, but that's
what it's all about...

d) Common attach points/airspace.  Where are you supposed to be while the other
robot is?  Where on the board are you allowed to grasp?

The board is pretty much symetrical from the front and back. I think
that each bot should stay on one face and side, that way we don't get
in each other's way...see incredible ASCII art of top view of board here:

        XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
                               XXXX
0000  [====================]  XXXX
0000
000000000000000000000000000

The O's and X's represent the individual player spaces. Blanks are
forbidden zones when your robot is not actually playing. to give the
other guy some space for his part dropping gantry.

e) Every robot has to have a "I've won" signal.  It probably should be one of
the beep.

OK.

f) Qualifying:  Consistency is an issue.  I think every robot has to
consistently run at least one full game with no misdrops/misturns to qualify in.

How about 2 tests. The first is drop a full hopper of parts into
the board in a triangle shape. The second is a standard board setup which requires
one more token from the robot under test to win.

g) Way to transport the unit onto the table easily.  Every player should have a
way to get onto a table without any grief easily.  So if we call Rob and Wayne
to play in competition, both Rob and Wayne have to be able to bring their
machines, plug into a gameboard and start within minutes.  For alignment, I
don't think they can bring plywood with them.

I think that the organizers should build a standard mount for the board, and
publish that. Then the bots have to conform to that shape and connect via a
simple technic pin for indexing or fastening...? See d)
