What does this have to do with the reasons for cessation of
the Pirate line?  That was the topic of my post, and I don't find the
direction of your further discussion to be either pertinent to my
reply or very interesting.

I think it is quite pertinent, although at this point it might be more useful
to ask why TLC is not producing NEW sets that supplement existing or previously
popular themes. (I admit I AM biased in that I like the idea of having some
pieces become rare because they are no longer available.) And I think you did
hit on it, Jeff, when you mentioned how the later pirate sets went WAY
downhill.  However, they have had plenty of time to come up with new ideas/get
a new crew of people on to brainstorm for fresh stuff/whatever it takes to
resurrect previously popular themes such as Pirate without settling for
the inferior (as they did in Castle with Fright Knights and arguably with KK).

Regardless, yes, I might wonder if bricks and minifigures are "tired" (in terms of buyer interest) since LEGO continues to juniorize their product (ie pitch them at younger (...) (23 years ago, 14-May-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)
