If enough people decide to take that approach, it would ultimately be
self-defeating. There wouldn't be a LEGO company around to produce new bricks in
any color.
Boycotting the company due to the color change is of course your choice, but
that doesn't help solve the problem of LEGO producing bricks in enough shapes
and quantities to help builders like yourself.

That's a counterproductive wish, and sounds mean-spirited and selfish. I
certainly hope this attitude isn't prevalent among AFOLs, and I hope to see your
voodoo proven wrong for 2005. I'm doing my best to try to help LEGO; a healthy
TLG can only be good for all AFOLs in the long run.
The CEO's response, to me, is good news in that they are being honest. It's not
the answer everyone wanted, of course, but I'll take an honest, hard answer over
an easy lie anytime. And maybe it can help provide closure on the issue, at
least in the short term.
