Admitting to a mistake and then stating that you aren't going to do anything

view, issuing this statement was a mistake.  It doesn't do anything to
alleviate the problem for colour purists (such as myself).

Well, I don't think anything they CAN do short of forcing the company into
bankrupcy would satisfy color purists. They can't afford to bring back the old
colors. You guys want the old colors. Either way, someone's going to be sad.

Instead, it calls into question the competence of LEGO's market researchers,
and exposes LEGO as being a company that has been grossly mismanaged.  To
completely overlook a core group of consumers when making a decision as
significant as this colour change is a serious oversight.

While I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to call AFOL's a "core" group of
consumers, I agree it's an oversight. But this announcement doesn't change
anything. We've known that Lego's whole market research team has been
struggling. They seem to have lots of both hits and misses. Galidor? Miss. Harry
Potter 1? Hit. Harry Potter 2? Miss. Knight's Kingdom 2? Hit. ZNAP? Miss.
Bionicle? Hit. Color change? Miss. Clikits? Hit. Theme parks? Miss. UCS Star
Wars? Hit. Etc. This announcement itself doesn't seem to alter much from my
perspective. I think we already knew everything JV said.

I am a bit confused as to why the CEO would publicly admit to these errors.

Would you rather someone say "sorry", or would you rather they say nothing? I
think some people would rather have them at least acknowledge that it was an
error.

But I think the big key is communication. Hopefully, Lego's learning to do just
that. Admitting to us that they know there was a problem, and that *if* they had
communicated it to the fans, it might have been avoided? It says they
acknowledge that our opinion matters to them. Lego Direct? Community
development? Ambassador program? They're listening a lot more now than they ever
did. I just hope they put it to good use.

And more to the point, would that colour purist really want their collection
contaminated with the new grey?

Well, for now, there seems to be a good mix of people who mix and people who
don't. Personally, I don't mix them. But I do keep all my new colors. I just
keep them in seperate bins. Someday, when I have enough, I'll probably pull "the
big switcheroo" and use new grey instead of old. I sort of expect that that's
the only rational thing to do. Unless you're swearing off new sets on principle
alone, or because the ONLY reason you'd buy it would be to get the grey
elements.

Just because you don't support LEGO post 2003, doesn't mean that you have
abandoned the hobby.

I guess the question is, if there were some fantastic 2006 set that had great
pieces in white, tan, black, sand green, AND new grey, would you buy it? Would
you simply sell, quarantine, or give away the new colored bricks? Or would you
totally refuse to buy it, even if it was 90% off?
