Suggested terminology:

Set - the whole box
Model - separate models in a set that have instructions in the booklet (1,2,
or more)

Submodel - part of a model that is a separate entity (airplane, car,
building, boat, etc.)

The submodel and model are the same thing by your definition.  I agree with
keeping 'model' as the term for this and use submodel to replace component
in definition.

Component - part of a model/submodel that is in separate file for technical
reason

According to the filename convention. e.g

0 Set: 7140 X-Wing Fighter, First Model, Fighter, Left wing

No need to put 'first model' in there.  The other file eader would be:

0 Set: 7140 X-Wing Fighter, Service Vehicle

for the small hover service vehicle for the fighter.  Not:

0 Set: 7140 X-Wing Fighter, Second Model, Service Vehicle

Not necessary at all.

I hope this is not an 'overspecification' of the problem :).

For the most part (besides this) it hits the nail on the head.... or clicks
the brick on the stud? :P

IMPORTANT - [ldraw.org] Official Model Repository

In order to begin assembling the ldraw.org official (TLG) model repository, I need to begin collecting TLG models in Ldraw. If you have made any TLG models you would be willing to contribute to the repository, please email them to me in .dat or .mpd (...)
