Using "main-" and "alt" gives us at least three more characters for
referencing submodels and sub-submodels.  I think Bram's idea of
main-a       main instructions, model "a"
main-aa      main instructions, model "a", sub-submodel "b"
main-ab
main-b
main-ba
altA-a          first alternate model, model "a"
altA-aa
altA-ab

Actually, to support more levels of subfiles, I suggested that we use the
following, or a similar, format:

main.dat     Main instructions, including all
models that can be built at once.
Basically, this is just a display
             of m1.dat through m9.dat
m1.dat       first model in main instructions.
m1-a.dat     first submodel of first model
m1-aa.dat    first component of first submodel of first model.
:
m1-aaaaa.dat first sub-sub-sub-component of
             first sub-sub-component of first
             sub-component of first component
of first submodel of first model. :) [1]
m1-ab.dat    second component of first submodel of first model.
:
m1-z.dat     twenty-sixth submodel of first model :)
m2.dat       second model of main instructions.
:
alt.dat      Alternate instructions, display file.
a1.dat       first model of alt. instructions
a1-a.dat
:
a9-zzzzz.dat The very last sub-sub-sub component.

I think the m- and a- are pretty self-explanatory, and six levels will be
more usefull than three (3's no more than we started with when we had
sXXXXaaa.dat)

[1] If you had an assembly with five hinges all piled on top of each
other some how, you might need this many levels...
