William,
BrickJournal is for the converted, and for those who are curious about getting
into the hobby, and seeing what potential exists for LEGO creations. In
essence, it's for those that want to learn more, as well as those who are
already deeply into the hobby.
I agree, train shows do a lot of PR work, but I'll be the first to admit that
making a blanket statement like "the 9V trains does more for LEGO PR than
anything else" may not be entirely accurate. It could be true, but it's simply
because I don't have the numbers (and not sure if anybody would, at that).
It's pretty clear that any LEGO display provides good PR, regardless of theme.
The question is how much of the pie each display contributes to the overall PR.
Since a lot of the train clubs are organized under ILTCO, the PR from the
combined train clubs could mean a sizable chunk of fan-created PR. Would it be
the largest chunk? That's very hard to say. I think it's relative to how you
look at it.
