10) Continual information leaks on upcoming LEGO sets/themes. (Corporate
Security)
Is this something TLG is concerned about or something AFOLs are concerned
about? Personally, Ill take all the information (leaked or otherwise) I can
get.

To answer your question: Leaks are an issue that TLG is concerned about.
The Ambassadors also felt that this should be listed as an issue in the best
interest of their business, as well as for the fans. As Lenny pointed out in
another thread, LEGO competitors can seize opportunities for set/theme design
ideas, and we dont want that to happen.
Also, its great when LEGO can bring forth a set that has not been leaked -
Cafe Corner, Market Street, and the UCS Millennium Falcon, to name a few - to
the fans. Some fansites feel differently; they want to know all of the
sets/themes that TLG will offer in the year(s) to come, and scour through TLG
servers to get images/info. Surely, this is not in the best interest of TLG,
nor of the fans, is it? If you feel otherwise, please elaborate and the
Ambassadors will discuss your concerns to see if the issue should be removed
from the list.

Well, what kind of leaks are you talking about? Someone bugging the offices in
Billund and divulging the plans for 2011 - well thats not good. But posting
images from a dealer catalog? Whats the harm in that? And Im not really sure
whats so great about TLG being able to announce a set that hasnt been
leaked. Whats in that for us? It seems like secrecy for the sake of secrecy.
Have there been any confirmed cases of Mega Bloks stealing ideas from TLG (or
vice versa)? It seems like more of a bogeyman at this point than an actual
possibility.
Its not exactly rocket science to figure out what TLG is coming out with
anyway, if Mega Bloks was trying. A big chunk of new sets are licenses, so those
are fairly obvious (and cant be copied anyway). Town goes police-fire-police.
Space and Aquaraiders are retreads. The only people who can use the knowledge of
what specific sets and parts are coming out in 6 months are AFOLs, so why not
just tell us?

Aside from the generally settled but still (to some) controversial matter of alleged patent/trademark violation, there are no cases of Mega Brands Inc. stealing ideas from TLG (or vice versa). You are correct that this fear is a bogeyman (...) (17 years ago, 27-Jul-07, to lugnet.ambassadors, FTX)
