The easiest way is to set the environment variable RCXTTY to the com port you want to use. Hurray!!! I've also just successfully compiled, uploaded, and ran my first legOS app!!! Thanks Rossz and all! lfn003 fixed it! It did NOT work when I used the lfnsrv.dll in Checked.dll (the larger one). It DID work when I used the lfnsrv.dll in (...) (25 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

legOS under WinNT - the saga continues. I've done further investigation. Long filenames (LFNs) are not fully supported in a DOS shell in Windows NT. I fooled around with legOS on an NT here at work and could get the individual commands from MAKEFILE to execute from the command line. It looks like NT doesn't properly handle the long filenames from within the make program (and possibly other (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

If you're using Windows, you can watch your programs variables with Rcx Command center. It wouldn't be hard to write a variable watcher for other platforms either. I have been doing an unfortunate amount of debugging. I really miss the printf statement to send myself messages like: what am I doing here? with these variables at these levels? Luis, I noticed the HTML files for the current HowTo are generated with SGMLtools. Do you have any sources in SGML, or were those created from LaTex? Make sure there is no "SHELL=" in the environment. If this exists, GNU make will attempt to use the specified shell program. I have found the MKS Toolkit is incompatible with this port of Make. I attempted to do the "black vinyl between LED and sensor" modification that Ralph Hempel documents on his site, but I was unable to get the vinyl to slide between the LED and the sensor (too tight a fit). Why don't you use the system timer (sys_time)? With one timer is enough. Use relative times instead of absolute timers... has anyone thought of an advantage to using two light sensors in the basic photo scanner robot that people have built. I'm working on one right now (mostly the vb programming right now for the pc side and pqc for the rcx). i have two kits to use, so (...) I just got Mindstorm set, and since I do not have a PC, NQC seemed like a great place to start. I tried Mac NQC and did not get very far downloading the RCX firmware. Before anyone replies to my previous message, found the problem. I have a light over my desk and this was interfering with the IR transmission. Hi I installed the win version of legOS and downloaded the firmware legOS.srec to both my RCX's. The older RCX from a 1.0 set seems to accept .lx files OK the first time after the firmware is downloaded. The new version will not accept any .lx (...) My conclusion is that the majority of apparent 2-state transitions never actually occur (that is: the sensor does not actually travel through 2 states between two consecutive sensor readings). Hi! Maybe this is obvious for all experienced legOS users - I am displaying the values read from the light sensor on the LCD, and I get values of ~30 for light and ~520 for darkness... I have replaced my batteries without erasing the firware several times. The trick is replacing the batteries one at a time with the brick turned off. Probably related to the garbage on the lcd that you get when turning off the RCX with a sensor active: if there is a light or rotation sensor or a pressed touch sensor connected to the RCX when you download firmware legOS will crash immediately (...) In NCQ & RCX Code, "Off" is the closest one gets to "locking" a motor. It will resist being turned, but in a crane application I can envision enough force to externally turn the shaft. is there a command for ncq the lock a motor in place, sorta opposite to the float command? I have a arm that i have made and it sits sorta like a crane with a motor to rotate it up and down.
