Yes indeed, I have built a robot for marble sorting. It just needs possibly a little tinkering, and it needs a LOT of programming, but I'm pretty happy. (...) Works well with 3 bricks vertical offset, 1 stud horizontal. There is also 12 + 24, but that suffers from a similar problem.
