Travis, Many of us would agree with you. Driving in Los Angeles is complicated
enough without adding cumbersome, useless SUVs onto our freeways and city
streets. You can't see through them, or around them, and they tend to cut off
anything smaller than a school bus without any warning. Perhaps this is just my
experiences with them here in Los Angeles, but I feel the higher gas prices are
a blessing in disguise if the end result is the removal of these hazards from
the road.
Lego purchases are for pleasure only. Many of us could live without it, though
we wouldn't want to. SUV or sports utility vehicles were made for people who
need the ability to go off road (lifeguards, park rangers, etc.). They were
never designed as a commuter vehicle. Personal preference aside, unless your
'commute' is through Barrow, Alaska where an SUV might be handy, they really are
a stupid commuter choice.
Would I give up my truck if gas prices got too high? Yes. Would I buy an SUV
ever? Yes, if the trend towards allowing these unsafe things on the road
continues. Would I prefer that everyone drove a small car in this town? Of
course. Common sense dictates that I'd like to be able to see further than one
vehicle ahead of me. It's just a safety issue.
