Isn't that a self-answering question? ;) Substitute my statement for 'that
group' in your statement, and you get:
"And who would (everyone who includes themselves in 'the group known as
ldraw.org') be?"
I guess we'd have to take a roll-call.
I think the term here is 'self-selection'. If you think you're in
ldraw.org, you probably are. If you know you're not in ldraw.org, then you
definitely aren't.
BTW, 'ldraw.org' may not be the best label for this group of people. I'm
pretty sure Tim didn't like it at one time (maybe he's changed his mind).
I like it, because it's net.centric, it's clear what it means (ldraw
organization, right?). But I chose to start using the term and the
defintion, without asking anyone else. If we ever want to actually vote on
a name for the group, that'd be fun.
More objectively, my definition of ldraw.org is broader than Tim's. When I
use the label 'ldraw.org' to refer to an organization of people, I mean to
include everyone who has helped to shape the parts library, our practices,
expectations and community. But I wouldn't want to accuse anyone of
belonging to ldraw.org if they think they don't.
Some people who almost definitely belong to ldraw.org:
- Anyone who can login to the ldraw.org server, and access the ldraw.org
files.
- Members of the numbering group.
- Members of the primitives committee.
- The guy whose running the Parts Tracker.
- The guy holding the treasury.
- People who give feedback to parts posted to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.
Notice that my list focused on contributions made to the part library, over
contributions to the ldraw.org website--that might reveal something about
my bias.
I'd generally agree with Tim that part authors aren't necessarily members
of ldraw.org. But some people are both. And I'd think that regular part
authors are pretty likely to be members of ldraw.org.
And what about people who write LDraw-related software? Are they in or
out? Hmm....
