No, I wasn't trying to imply that, although I may have inadvertantly (rereading
back on the thread). It might be (arguably) less good for the community, but
certainly not "bad" - anything that keeps our favorite toy in circulation
sounds pretty good to me.
Ok, the standard end-of post ramble.
(first, sorry for the delay, but I had no desire to write a long post with one
of my fingers in a bandage - stupid doors)
Having skimmed the thread again, and thought about what I was trying to say, it
seems they managed to get worlds apart - not all that unusual in a debate :)
I started off by trying to figure out (in a public kind-of-way) what anyone
would use e-bay for, and went off on a tangent with Adam Y. and Mike S. that
ended up with me sounding like some kind of Lego nazi preaching the good of the
community before all else. That was not what I was trying to do.
Basically, I got some good answers for my original question. When the tangent
started to veer, I was more or less thinking things through as I was posting
them, and ended up taking a more extreme (appearing) stance than I had
intended.
As far as I'm concerned, sell your Lego however you like. I don't have the
slightest right to tell anyone how and where to sell, and I wasn't trying to,
although it may have sounded like that - I have been accused before of having
my trains of thought come out like dicates from a throne.
For myself, I don't intend to sell through ebay, more or less for the reasons
expounded elsewhere, but I'm not planning on doing a seriously high volume of
selling, either. I have the extreme good fortune of not having a Lego habit
that exceeds my disposable income (yet). I certainly don't think any less of
people who do sell through ebay - they're just picking the solution that works
best for them.
Apologies for any hard feelings,
James
