Now is the time for the American authorities to give a crystal clear
message to the Israeli authorities that the violence and the occupation

The situation in the Middle East is complicated.  Both sides have points to
be made and complaints that deserve a hearing.  But there are stark
differences between the two – and these differences paint a clear picture of
who wears the black hat and who dons the white one.

Israel is clearly prepared to recognize the existence of a Palestinian
State.  The Palestinians are clearly unprepared to recognize the existence
of a Jewish State.

Palestinian terrorists target Israeli civilians.  Israel targets those who
target their innocent citizens.

Israelis teach their children tolerance of Palestinians.  Palestinians teach
their children hatred of Jews.

We could go on.  Suffice it to say that almost ALL of the concessions in
peace discussions over the past few years have been made by Israel.  The
more Israel appears to be willing to give, the more the Arab world demands.
It’s clear that nothing will satisfy Islamic and Palestinian fanatics short
of the complete and utter destruction of Israel and the expulsion of all
Jews from the region.

Oh … and by the way. The hatred of Israel has much more to do with the fact
that they are a bastion of relative freedom and democratic selection of
leaders in a region where freedom and democratic principals are greatly
feared by those in power.  Ditto for The United States.

I think that every single assertion in this note is incorrect. I'm not sure that I've ever seen that happen before. Oh, no...I was wrong. The first two sentences are reasonable. Chris (...) (22 years ago, 6-Apr-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) The situation is indeed very complicated. So I don't understand why you present views which are, in my opinion, very simplified and black-and-white. Fredrik (22 years ago, 6-Apr-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
