I'm just curious if anyone has ever built their newly-bought lego set only

On the other hand, I *always* have a small handful of extra pieces. :)

When I bought my Whirl'n'Wheel Super Truck Model Team set (I don't know the
number offhand) way back when it was available, it was missing the black
snowplow piece that made the air deflector on the roof.  I never called TLC to
complain, because I didn't know I could.  I just coped with it and moved on
with my life.  That's the only instance in the almost 300 sets that I own where
a piece was missing.
