I'm just curious if anyone has ever built their newly-bought lego set only
to discover a piece is missing.  I've often been positive partway through
that I was missing one, but I always ended up finding it.

On the other hand, I *always* have a small handful of extra pieces. :)

Only once. I bought a bunch of 8414's, and building one I found a missing bag of pieces. There was a duplicate bag of other pieces though, so upon weighing the set seemed complete. Called customer service and received the missing pieces in three (...) (25 years ago, 14-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I bought a Magic Flash (5581) a few years ago and discovered that I was missing from 50 to 100 pieces. As near as I could tell, a parts bag left out of the box. The Lego service people worked with me to replace all of the missing parts. (25 years ago, 14-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I never EVER thought it would happen. Set after set, Q-control from Lego has always been spot-on. (and yes, always with a few extra tiny bits!) Until just a couple days ago! Augh! Yes, but just once so far out of all these sets I've been buying 9several hundren in the last 6 months). It was an arachnoid starbase purchased at Kohls, and it was apparently mispacked at Lego, as is was missing an entire large bag of parts, but (...) (25 years ago, 15-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I've heard of mis-packed lego instances 3 times in all my 23 years of existance: 1: Around '88 or '89, a friend of mine bought the FUTURON monorail. A Trans-blue windshield was interchanged with a Trans-Green one. Status of mistake? Unknown. (...) (25 years ago, 15-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) Only once: a blue 1x6 beam 19 years ago. I have received a mis-printed computer screen - the classic space one with the buttons and cross-hairs. The printing on it is all askew. I rather like it, actually. Oh, and a few months ago I was (...) (25 years ago, 17-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)
