  Grip tyres for 12V trains
 
I recently bought some 4.5V and 12V train parts, including two 80s 12V motors, but no grip tyres. The engines slip a lot with just a few cars (mostly the steel axle trainbases from the 70s) Does someone know a good alternative for grip tyres. I (...) (21 years ago, 19-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)

I've gotten my first copy of 4512, and are reasonably impressed with it. As others have noted, the box showes 1/2 straights, but the set doesn't include them :(. The loco isn't too bad (fairly close to that of 4564, but not the same). New snowplow (...) (21 years ago, 19-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)

hi! Here is a layout that puzzled me as a child. It took me some time to accept that they seemed to have cheated. (URL) and rebuild this in Track Designer. It won't work. The channels created by the 2x1 panels have too much freedom - the door can slide left and right in a 10 wide, but the garage door won't fit in 9 wide (...) Being that the NILTC is an 8-wide train club I would personally rather build 6 stud wide 24 plus stud long containers verses the LEGO company’s version of 4 studs wide 8 studs long. As much as I was impress with the Trainshed - 10027 I felt it had some short comings. First was that no matter how you set it up, open or closed, it was only half a building. Whoa, that is interesting... I just got the Summer 2003 catalog, unfortunately it doesn't show much track, just one full straight and the switch and curves in the set. Yes (to the second question :), the booster code will cut power if the polarity of the track power hasn't changed for 10 milliseconds (or if no power is detected). Basicly, the command station is always sending out packets by flipping the polarity (...) (21 years ago, 9-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)

Well done! and THANKS! I tried Sunday night to use lacc as both a decoder and booster, but I didn't have a proper "sensor" (couldn't find my second 9v light), and none of my jury-rigged versions did the trick. Just curious: Would it also work if the booster is powered by an external source and the LDCC RCX draws its power from the track? Or does the booster have to sense the presence of the DCC controller before it supplies power? (...) (21 years ago, 9-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)

Ok, I think I have it fixed. Apparently, nqc doesn't like .srec files that have gaps in the memory sequence. So, I just added some zeroes in those spots to makes things copacetic... :-) I tested it with the Win32 version of nqc 2.4 a4 and it seems (...) (21 years ago, 8-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)

1.04beta isn't working with nqc 2.2r1 for Linux :(. After the download completes I get a SOUND_FAST_UP then the LCD goes blank and the RCX is completely unresponsive. I have to pull the batteries to reset it. This happens with both lacc104.srec and (...) (21 years ago, 7-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)

(...) you (...) Yep, I just tried it: I fed the track power straight into the RCX 1.0 power input jack (and to the lamp brick "sensor" attached to sensor port 1). (...) K, tested the new firmware of Marks in 2 RCX's--one 'master', one 'slave'. Used the lamp bricks as the resistor as well. Works mighty impressive. This is great. I have one question. I assume that the DCC stationary decoder does need to be powdered and it can be powered by either batteries or AC/DC 9 volt adapator. Have you thought about using a soundtraxx decoder to add sound to the engines (...) (21 years ago, 4-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)
