Actually, LDCC sends out what is called an "Accessory Decoder Packet"
to control the switch motors.  This is a different type of packet than those
sent to the mobile decoders in the train motors.  Also, you can have an
accessory decoder with an address of 1 and a mobile decoder of
address 1 on the same track without conflict (they're different address
spaces).

As an aside, it would be possible to write a version of LACC that
accepts the mobile decoder packets so that you could put an RCX
in a locomotive to control a train motor modified as Steve Hassenplug
decribes in this post:

I've seen various designs on BrickShelf that use IR to communicate
to an RCX on the train, but picking up the commands from the rails
using DCC means the train could operate in tunnels or other places
where IR reception isn't good.

Of course, the real challenge is to hide the RCX somewhere on the
train.  :-)

Well done! and THANKS! I tried Sunday night to use lacc as both a decoder and booster, but I didn't have a proper "sensor" (couldn't find my second 9v light), and none of my jury-rigged versions did the trick. I'll pick up some resistors and build a (...) (21 years ago, 9-Jul-03, to lugnet.trains)
