Has anyone tried to automate a point by directly laying a worm (screw) gear on the grey plastic (removing the yellow switch handle)? It seems that that'd work well. I suppose that you'd have to worry about stopping, but if they are switched via a (...) (25 years ago, 27-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

I've tried some of the 12V accesories with a 9V regulator, and most work OK--the lights certainly did. I think the exception was the motorized stuff (the automatic crossing, 7866); only one of the gates would work as I recall. Also, I don't think (...) (25 years ago, 26-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

Actually, lowering the voltage would lower the current draw too with a constant load. Of course a motor is anything but a linear load, and it does tend to draw more current at slower rpm. In any case, you're not going to break it, since the 9v train (...) (25 years ago, 23-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

FWIW: I have two LEGO train transformers that are labeled for an output of 12 VAC and two that are labeled for an output of 11 VAC. Both rate the power output at 7 VA. One of my speed controllers is labeled for an input of 9-11 VAC, and three for an (...) (25 years ago, 23-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

Okay, how's this for an idea: Most electronic stores stock a kind of universal power converter. These have several output settings, including 9v and 7.5 volt. If you use the 7.5 volt setting, the train never gets enough power to derail on curves. (...) (25 years ago, 23-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

I agree with the sticker issue, however there is a fine line! I think stickers are OK if they only represent a logo, numbering or words. I don't think using stickers to mask colors and create stripes... is legit. In many of the model railroad decal (...) (25 years ago, 20-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

Thanks Larry, I actually borrowed the tile idea from LEGO land, Billund. They actually "side" entire houses with this technique, but they have a ton of 1x8 tiles... BTW spelling has always been a problem for me (darn phonics). I didn't know that (...) (25 years ago, 20-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

Nice. I like the fake door, very clever. Think I'll steal that idea. One minor nit... it's Bogie (as in Humphrey) rather than Boogie (as in John Travolta), and the US usage is more properly "truck". (...) (25 years ago, 20-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? I'd say something is pure LEGO(r) if Joe average consumer can go buy it at a store or direct from TLG and it comes in a LEGO box. Stuff that someone made in a back room explicitly for Miniland that is (...) (25 years ago, 20-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

Well John I would want to copy the master peices they have made. I like the creativity that went into making realalistic designs of trains. I am sure someone at LEGO had to design the electronics, and mechanics that went into those trains. I am sure (...) (25 years ago, 19-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)
