Not sure where to chime in this thread, so I'm dropping it in the middle :)
I personally feel I was lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to come out
of the dark ages and rediscover my love of Lego about two years ago.
My slow discovery of the the AFOL community in general, and rtlToronto
specifically, are to me, good things. They are a great bunch of guys
that I enjoy spending time with, both virtually, and in meat-space,
when my schedule permits.
I first discovered rtlToronto at one of their open house robotics
competitions, and got hooked, (using my then 7 year old son as a
pretense for attending :) From there, I discovered Lugnet, and the
wide range of people on the web who share my fascination with these
pieces of ABS, especially of the Technic/robotic variety. The
inspiration I receive routinely, along with the awestruck feeling of
seeing how someone else has accomplished some particular task in an
exceeding clever fashion, never pales.
That said...had I started to come out of my dark age right now, I
would probably not have bothered, and instead focused my energies into
one of my other hobbies.
This would have been for two reasons...1) seeing the Lego "community"
through the eyes of Lugnet, as it publicly appears, would have
completely turned me off, and 2) the apparent death of all things
Mindstorm from TLC.
But I didn't, so rtlToronto you are stuck with me for now :)

| (...) Are you trying to say LUGNET has "jumped the shark"? That's a serious question, please answer seriously... if you are, you may not be the only person thinking that, not by a wide margin. (20 years ago, 21-Dec-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
