We have wondered why some toa masks come in orange, yellow, light blue, and purple... But did you ever notice the TOUNGA have masks in those colors?!? In my latest model I found the same thing. It's a mobile crane with 3 steering axles, 2 front, 1 counter. It would only steer while moving, and still with difficulty. The trick would be to put more gears on, but then steering would be very slow. (...) (24 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

I have not used the micromotors for any steering assemblies but the geared motors work very well. Using short, low power (and counted so to get back to center easily) pulses I've had no problems either moving or stationary. Getting them to fit into (...) I agree. I am not sure who coined the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but as my old QC instructor use to say, "if it ain't broke, how do we make it BETTER!" That should be the goal of every Lego fan. After all, this is how we learn and (...) (24 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

Some vehicles prototypically have brakes on (...) not quite true. One of the cars I drive on occasion has its brake on the dif (it has no transmission per se, just a chain and dif aft of the engine...its a replica of a 1903 Locomobile) I'm just (...) (24 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

After "operating" my tow truck for a few minutes, I noticed a few similar limitations. My mods included: -adding a second pneumatic piston to raise/lower the lifting frame. -better steering (tighter turning radius). -stronger crane arm / motorized (...) True, but i like to say Kit 8466 is 4 Wheel Drive, full suspension and V8 engine, also a gear box appears in the photo. Too many panels and not enough beams like the Space shuttle... Thanks for the link to the new kits. They both look interesting, however they still seem to not do much beyond roll across the floor (I smell a theme for this year). I just started following Technic Models to support my Robotics habit and have begun looking through some older catalogs. I would echo the sentiments of others who have replied. Save for the pneumatics pack from Lego Shop at Home, the Tow Truck is the best way to get started. Not only does it give you some great parts, it actually teaches you some very interesting uses (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.technic)

A dollar store here in Binghamton NY still has some from last time I wiped out their stock (at 3 sets for a dollar I got all 100 they had). The sets I got were an even distribution. The figures are randomly distributed (badly) and players can purchase booster packs to strengthen and diversify their MageKnight (...)
