There are people who really pronounce dissect with a short i?  Wow.  I've
never heard it that way.

According to Mirriam Webster (www.m-w.com), it's pronounced either way. Adrian (...) (23 years ago, 8-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
