That's what left-liberals and Democrats paint all Republicans, and shame • on
Mccain for doing it. And you wonder  why most Republicans didn't vote for
him.

I certainly wonder that.  He was there only chance of winning the • election.
We'll be welcoming (or whatever) President Gore next year.  Uggh.

I don't think so. We shall see. The polls still favor Bush, as far as I have
seen.

Ummmm...not the McCain that I watched.  Which leftist ideas do you mean?

Well, campaign finance is a HUGE one, for starters. I think the whols system
is gfarbage, and putting the government in more power to regulate it is just
totally foolish. I think there should be no limits on contributions, and
full disclosure on donors. He waffled on taxes, social security, etc. The
press also lifted him up to a god-like status, even though he is  a
Republican. The press would also have more control of politics then they
already do, and for the most part, are the left/liberal mind. The refroms
Mccain wanted would have hurt Republican financing, which is both funny and
pathetic.

And he played
himself like an outsider in the realm of politics, when he wan't. Like • Larry
said, theya re all politicians, even Mccain.

I think he tried and mostly succeeded in portraying himself as a • reform-minded
candidate, not a political outsider.  Everyone knows that he's a career
politico.

Well, he didn't portary himself as a reformer, he tried to portray himself
as a outsider, when he isn't. Don't misunderstand, I really respect him, but
he would have gotten balsted just as GWB is now. It doesn't matter who got
it, because the votes in November will tell.

Well, if you are running for the nominiation of a party (Let's not get • into
the whole primary debate again) would you not agree that you would want a
nomination of the people in the party? Just a question... We shall see in
November.

Normally, but really, it's a complex system and any way to get the votes • you
need will work.  It just didn't this time.  Pitty.

Pitty? Putty? Silly-putty? : )

I think the independant voters thing is overblown, but we shall see.

(...) You're saying that campaign finance reform is a leftist topic? I don't think so. Gore isn't really reform-minded. In general no establishment politicians are going to be. If McCain truely is, then he's an exception. (...) Are you claiming that (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
