Oh, and by the way, Key West has got to be one of the most wonderful places on
the entire face of the planet, because people there (at least while they are
there, anyway) are so very very open, friendly and tolerant. I love going • there
and I wish I had time to go there this trip.

So I am certainly not in agreement with you if you're condemning Key West as a
"homosexual playground". What a pejorative term.

Very hetero and very proud of it but that's not the point

Key West is one of my favorite places on the planet.  And that distinction is
due to the Conchs of Key West, who admittedly, have stayed in a permanent 60s
frame of mind.  Key West also has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
A big crime in Key West is a bicycle theft or an auto accident.

I do have to say that Key West used to be a homosexual playground, but not in
years.  But my question is, why is becoming a homoseual playground a bad
thing?  It always leads to a good community.

The revitalization of Key West is due almost soley to the influx of gays in the
80s.  They restored homes (many of which became bed and breakfasts), opened
businesses, and drew visitors to what had become a very seedy little island.
Similarly, West Hollywood, Brooklyn Heights and many other neighborhoods have
been restored by the "homosexual playground".

What happens to all "Gay Meccas", they become gentrified.  Once the heteros
become aware of the improvements gays have made to a community, they move in in
droves, drive up the real estate prices and force gays out.   Cases in point:
West Hollywood, Greenwich Village, Park Slope in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights,
and now South Beach.

Walking down Duvall St. used to be a joy.  Lots of privately owned shops of
art, literature, crafts, etc.  Walking down Duvall now is a endless stream of
Arab/Irani/Pakistani owned T-Shirt shops, the Gap, Hard Rock Cafe, Haagen Daz,
etc.  The charm is gone.  Thankfully, the 60s attitude has stayed.

So, becoming a homosexual playground is a very good thing!!!!
