In the end, don't we all want to be happy?
Can I *please* stomp on someone else's foot? That'll make me so happy!
No?
But I said please!
There are soooo many newsgroups. If the admins were to take on the
responsibility for maintaining links for all the uncurated newsgroups, there
would have to be like a dozen full time employees, just doing updates.
Larry was very helpful with his suggestions. If you had issues with
previous discussions with Larry that left a bad taste in your mouth, don't
take it out on his very appropriate post this time.
Read what was said--you asked for help. You wanted the admins to help
specifically update your links. Larry pointed out, rightly, that that is
not part of their job, and that groups that want these things need to
appoint a curator who will do it for them.
He also went on to give very helpful suggestions to facilitate this endeavour.
Proactive: How do we go about getting our links updated?
Whining: I don't want to do it--I pay money--Someone else should do it for me
I pay property tax--I want the gov't to cut my grass please.
No?
But I said please and I pay money for the property!
K, I'm throwing my hat in the ring--I'll volunteer to be the curator for .mecha.
I know nothing about said group, and I really don't plan on building *any*
mechs in the future, tho I love looking at the mechs that y'all
build--especially yours, Eric! You do sweet work, and it looks as if you
enjoy working with this particular medium.
If you want a know-nothing-mecha curator, there you go.
I don't know anything about this web page building app. either, so that
might rule me out right there.
K, I won't be any good at it so forget that bit.
The admins have enuf on their plates without getting bogged down in what
should be an internal 'who wants to be .mecha curator' problem, which is
what Larry said.
Tackle the issue that way--who wants the job?
Reminds me of that children's story about the mice who came up with this
brilliant idea to tie a string with a bell on it around the neck of the cat
so they could hear the cat coming--after the idea and plan were formed, no
one volunteered to do the actual job, so the cat never got the bell around
its neck.
Bottom line, for me, is read what was said, and don't shoot the message
'cause you don't like the messenger.
