Too late. The word has already been stigmatized. Two words: Beanie Babies.
When someone says "collector" I think of someone who MUST HAVE EVERY ITEM.

Hey if you're going to pick a field where people are encouraged to 'buy them
all,' you should have picked Pokemon or even Bionicles.  ;)

But seriously, the terms "stamp collector," "coin collector," "action figure
collector," etc. are all commonly accepted terms which in no way implies you
have to have (or even desire to have) *all* stamps, coins, etc.
