corner of LUGNET is, and always has been, a pretty great group.  Yes we
stray once in a while (who doesn't) and we (community policing) took care • of
whatever situation occured long before it got upgraded into hurricane CP,
and if CP didn't show up, no one would have even *known* about it and we • all
would have gone along our little merry ways, all the happier because of it.

Disclaimer: I am not in any way an admin, just a concerned community member.

Anyone who posts on LUGNET agreed to the TOS when they signed up. From the
TOS (http://www.lugnet.com/admin/terms/agreement):
"(do not) Post or transmit any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous,
defamatory, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, profane, or indecent information
of any kind, including without limitation any transmissions constituting or
encouraging conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to
civil liability, or otherwise violate any local, state, national, or
international law."

That covers *everywhere* on LUGNET according to my reading of the TOS,
including the .loc and .org groups. Why? Because (IMO) all those messages
appear on the LUGNET News front page when they are first posted, where lots
of people can read them, including kids and their parents.

Now, very often if you're only posting to your own org or loc group, nobody
will notice and call you on it. If we're thinking of the same original
recent post, though, it was posted to lugnet.general as well. If that
happens, thousands of people will read it, and yes, somebody is going to
object.

If you want to be able to say anything you like, and set  your own rules for
your group, there's an easy answer - set up a private mailing list. We
(Vancouver Lego Club) did that last year when some members got irritated
with non-members "butting in" on our discussions. Sometimes too, you want to
discuss something privately before making it public. I know a lot of groups
do this, and it's easy and free.
