Ah!  I always thought it probably came from another line, because we all know
toy companies love to do that (the Ewok Villiage Playset, for example, was
re-marketed as the "Robin Hood: Prince of Theives Bandit's Hideout").

At any rate, it wasn't marketed as an EU toy, it was just there.  It stuck out
a LOT because it was the only weird non-movie thing at the time.

Still, the little "shuttle pod" from the original Kenner EU toys was one of
my favorite Star Wars toys... I never had the original Imperial Shuttle.

Yeah!  I loved that, too, for much the same reason.  But were the so-called
"mini-rigs" marketed under the EU banner?  I thought they were just little
vehicles.  I was unaware the EU banner- or any banner- was used in the original
Kenner line.

Well, no, they weren't called Expanded Universe, but they filled the same role that the EU vehicles fill now: Inexpensive little vehicles with one or two features.... so I referred to them as EU.
