Would that be sufficient for the LP? To have a significant influence on
the course of government even if the LP doesn't itself field any players?
In that case, I'd have to agree with you, in that personal responsibility
and bureaucratic downsizing of the kind espoused by libertarians (small l)
would by definition benefit society.
Having said that, and taking at face value the citation by www.m-w.com,
which identifies 1789 as the year "libertarian" was coined, I wonder if
libertarian (again, small l) ideas have been "catching on" for 2+ centuries,
while Libertarianism (big L) is in a way simply a crystalization of those ideas.
