Actually, I think the current situation with regard to a rea/ideal god does exist. I don’t bother him and he doesn’t bother me. But if I were to answer:

He would show himself. He would provide a quid pro quo deal that I can understand. He would guide me only to the garage sales with stuff I want.

   Hmmm. Most atheists I know have a pretty condescending attitude towards religion.

That’s my experience too. Even me. I don’t sit around with other atheists discussion how stupid the sheep are (for a number of reasons), but those conversations do happen. And I do think that belief in the supernatural is a mental failing -- almost certainly one of the complexities of human psychology rather than simple stupidity.

   Look, just because one is a Christian doesn’t mean that they are necessarily clear thinkers.

I rather suspect that Dave wasn’t arguing that. :-)

(...) That is why Jesus summed it up nicely into: "Love God with all of your heart, soul and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself." That's all you really need to know and do.
